Our Story
by Barnaby Sanders
The beginning:
Katie, always had a real passion for horses. I began to ride with her at a local riding school at the age of 26. We booked tickets to see cross country day at the 2012 Olympic games in Greenwich Park. The moment I saw the professionals flying around that track, I knew it was something I needed to do. Katie and I made a promise to ourselves that we would buy our first horse. Rainstown Sky was a beautiful Irish bred mare, 16.1 hands and bright bay. She had no experience of anything and was 7 when we brought her home. She was of unrecorded breeding; we chose her as she was kind natured. She transformed into an incredible event horse. We competed for four seasons with the results improving at each level. We finally ended up competing at novice, a goal that was unthinkable at the beginning. Sky was my friend, genuine, brave and an absolute cross country machine. Her rideability and heart was second to none.

The legacy of Rainstown Sky:

As time moved on and we wanted to have horses for the future, there seemed no better solution than to breed a line of horses from our star, Rainstown Sky. She hung up her cross country boots in 2017 and went into foal. The first Volantes horse, Caliber Skyfall came along in 2019. Our goal at Volantes Sports Horses is to breed the most capable and willing partner for high level competition whist maintaining intelligence and rideability. To achieve this we look to breed our foals by the best stallions for eventing and show jumping. The stallions are carefully selected based on the conformation, competition record, blood, temperament and much more. I was lucky enough to compete against Caliber Royale, Caliber Skyfall's Sire. A horse with presence, style and class, we immediately knew he would be a choice for the future.
As we build on what we started these principles remain key. The sports horse with heart and character, that will be your best friend and help you excel in your chosen sphere of competition.
